The Louisiana Ragin Cajun Football team traveled to face Monroe, while the Sun Belt West was already clinched with a Texas State win over South Alabama on Friday night. The Cajun Football is still vying to host the Sun Belt Conference game, pending the outcome of the James Madison and Marshall game.
Zylan Perry rushed for a career-high 150 yards and a pair of touchdowns while the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns gained 133 of its 223 total yards on the ground in the fourth quarter to pull away and defeat ULM, 37-23, in the Sun Belt Conference regular-season finale for both teams Saturday at Malone Stadium. Perry, who became the first Ragin’ Cajuns rusher since Chris Smith (238) and Montrell Johnson (150) to rush for 150 yards or more in a game. Bill Davis gained 78 yards with a touchdown while Chandler Fields completed 17 of 26 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns as Louisiana (10-2, 7-1 SBC) recorded its fourth 10-win season in the past six years. The Ragin’ Cajuns, who outscored ULM (5-7, 3-5 SBC), 24-10 in the second half, capped off an unbeaten 6-0 record on the road for the first time since 2020.
Kody Jackson intercepted a pair of passes for Louisiana, which never trailed after Fields connected with Tavion Smith on a 4-yard scoring pass on the Ragin’ Cajuns initial drive of the second half. Louisiana built a 20-16 lead after three quarters before Perry gained 102 yards on 12 carries in the fourth quarter, including a 7-yard scoring run for a 27-16 advantage. Louisiana, which advanced to next week’s 2024 Hercules Tires Sun Belt Football Championship against either Marshall or Georgia Southern.
