For the first time in many years, the City of Carencro had a genuine public fireworks display to celebrate Independence Day. It was held Sunday evening at Carencro’s Pelican Park. The event began with a few words from Mayor Charlotte Clavier and a Blessing by Monsignor.

High Performance provided the music on the Mercredi show stage. BBQ pork Steaks that rivaled the famous one at the International Rice Festival were served for only five dollars and did not disappoint.

Reaction on social media following the fireworks show that many people liked the fireworks display.

“It’s been a very long time since Carencro had firework display for the 4th. I can remember watching them at the Old Evangeline Downs race track. But they put on a great show last night. Thank you to everyone that made it possible. Let’s try it again next year.”

“It was a fantastic fireworks show tonight. Started on time and was so exciting to watch.”

“I was really impressed!! I hope this was the first of many.”

“27 minutes worth!!!”

More events at Carencro’s Pelican Park are to come, with the fall series of the Mercredi Show lineup to be announced next week and the C’est Bon Festival in November. Carencro’s Pelican Park also hosted the adult USSSA State tournament on Saturday. As one USSSA official stated on Saturday, Carencro’s Pelican Park is in the upper level of facilities in the state, which is amazing considering the facility’s age.

A new concession area will be started soon. Major improvements to Pelican Park and Carencro Park are being discussed and budgeted.
